Due to the geopolitical tension between India and China, Vivo has pulled off from the title sponsor of IPL. Due to this BCCI was searching the new title sponsor for IPL. This search for the title sponsor ends with Dream 11. Recently Indian govt. banned 59 Chinese apps.
Previously IPL 2020 was scheduled to begin on March 29. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it was canceled and has now rescheduled to start from September 19, 2020, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) instead of India. The 13th IPL edition will run until November 10.
According to the reports, Dream11 beats edtech startup Byju’s and Unacademy for the IPL title sponsorship by paying 50% less than Vivo (mobile manufacturing company).
If we talk about the Dream11, it’s a sports tech startup, was founded in 2008 by two fellow Indian entrepreneurs Bhavit Sheth and Harsh Jain. Dream11 is a fantasy platform that allows users to play fantasy cricket, hockey, football, kabaddi, and basketball.
According to the reports, an Edtech startup Byjus and Unacademy were also in the race to win the IPL 2020 title sponsorship. Dream 11 beats all and has made an average bid of Rs. 234 crores for three-years for this title sponsorship.
After this deal IPL chairman Brijesh Patel said this association will help to increase the engagement of the fans with the IPL. He also welcomes the Dream 11 as the title sponsor. He also said “ we will look forward to delivering great value to the Dream 11 as Dream11 is the new title sponsor of IPL 2020
